Denis Kartashev Biography

Denis: Absolutely no coincidence! I believe that I was born a makeup artist. Already in childhood, I painted faces in magazines, as well as the face of my cat. In addition, my mother worked as a hairdresser, I grew up in an atmosphere of salon. And by the age of 20, he began to work as a makeup artist, absolutely not doubting the choice of profession. As for the training, at first I was engaged in the makeup artist for three days, she showed me what and what is called and what is used for.

After 2 weeks, I participated in a professional competition, took 4th place and was terribly dissatisfied with the result, although friends and jury members said that I had good potential. After that, I graduated from the best training center at that time in St. Petersburg, and after a year and a half I worked in the VIP salon. Of course, then there were various master classes in different schools and countries, I still study a lot.

But today the best school for me is my own academy. In it, I am constantly learning as a teacher and as a makeup artist - from students, colleagues. Denis: I understand that according to the portfolio, I seem to be a crazy artist who is far from reality, but this is not at all so. I like to work in different directions so that everything constantly changes around me and in my profession.

The cycle that consists of working with clients, work on the set, the work of the teacher at the academy, at some TV events, etc. Denis: Yes, there is a fairly stable opinion that the best hairdressers, makeup artists, cooks, clothing designers are men. I am very critical of this version, perhaps it is explained simply by the addiction of women - it is more pleasant for them to see a man in front of them.

However, the most authoritative, most famous makeup artists today are women. Alex Box, Pat McGgrad, who created a certain style, their own empires. And I know a huge number of girls who are much more creative, more professional than many makeup guys. Therefore, the matter of the floor is just a stereotype, in my opinion. Denis: I can say about myself: I am a makeup artist, and this is the main thing that means my profession and myself.

But at the same time, I studied on a hairdresser and a stylist. I use this knowledge in my work as a make-up artist who can give the client a little more: more professionally to choose makeup for style, clothes, occasion, to advise something in terms of hairstyles and the whole image. These are additional knowledge that allow me to be a highly professional makeup artist.

And those who say that they can do everything equally well, most likely, cunning. What will this trend lead to? Will we get a new form of art? Denis: If you look at the films on the futuristic theme, read the literature, look a little into the future of fashion, it will become clear that creative and completely non -unique makeup can become absolutely wearable. I personally do everything for this to decorate not only the face, but also the gray monotonous life of millions of people who work in the office.

That is, together with a yellow blouse, we make a green tone, turquoise touches Aise, lips - orange and purple, and so we go to work in the office, and this is a year. I really liked the stylistics of the film “Hunger Games”, I agree with the author of the idea. Although art makeup exists as an art that has long been going far beyond the canvas, the face can be material for it. Denis: With different ones.

To date, for me there is no one brand that would meet all the requirements of the makeup artist. Not so long ago, I made an audit of all cosmetics, and it turned out that the room, which used to be intended for guests, turned into a warehouse. I threw off part of the cosmetics, left something for the collection. But while I have not created my own brand, I am sure that for any make -up artist the most professional will be work with different brands from which we choose the best.

Denis: Having learned in all countries and capitals of fashion, I completely immodestly believe that our Russian school is the best. Work here is done much better and more beautiful. Abroad, you can only learn and become a good makeup artist if you have a gift. All training there is mainly aimed at the image and PR. Of course, London and New York are taught on the streets, give inspiration and taste, allow you to understand fashion as creativity.

But at the master classes themselves, mainly a boring, even understandable material is given.

If we talk about a Russian school, then here is a big question. I am called a pro-Western makeup artist, since I do not support drawings on my face, patterns, butterflies, I consider this primitive, although I myself once participated in competitions. It must be understood that this is a completely separate event from real life and the world of fashion, a circle in drawing in a Russian-folk style that can be useful for beginner masters in terms of technology, but also a little dangerous, as it can ruin the taste.

Once in France on the set, the customer asked us not to do Russian makeup when I asked what she was in mind, she showed this. And I felt a little offensive. Denis: If there is talent, the technique will certainly be.If there is no talent, then the technique should be perfect. For all the time of teaching, I did not say a single student - this is not yours. If a person wants to be a makeup artist, then he can learn this.

Of course, he will not become great, will not fall into history. But he will be a worthy master and professional. The main thing is striving for this. I had students who took a basic course three times, the first two times without receiving a diploma without giving the standard. But then they still became good makeup artists. Denis: For each she is his own.

The cover or several American Vogue is a certain goal for me, but it is intermediate. I have everything with ambitions, so despite the seemingly great successes that seem to many, I believe that I am only at the beginning of the journey. And the covers of Vogue, Madonna and Lady Gaga, films and her own book, cosmetic brand are what I want to do. How do you feel about this?

Denis: Of course, I sometimes like to puff my lips, squint my eyes and impress Olympus resident. But this is rather one of the pictures that can somehow designate me. It is not focused on people who come to study - I am terribly not like stellar illness and I do not suffer from her absolutely. This picture is focused on customers and customers from the Fesen Industry and VIP-tests. There are pouted lips, an arrogant look is a certain dress code.

On my pages in social networks there are many of my other photos without a star veil. Denis: The Academy is only in Moscow. And it is significantly different from many other makeup schools. Firstly, I only teach my author's courses there. The second difference - I am terribly not like to waste time in vain and deceive people. Therefore, there is nothing superfluous in the program, everything is directly related to what a person should do in real work.

There are no fish schemes, an apple, a banana in my school - such names, in my opinion, generally discredit the profession. I give people the essence, even if they have no inspiration and great talent. For me, the main task is not to tell how I work, but to teach. The basic course lasts only 7 days, there is no boring information about the structure of the skin and gold section - all this is generally available.

Compactness, maximum efficiency and personally my authorship are three things that distinguish my school. In Irkutsk, I really liked it, and I plan to come here with master classes again about a year later. Photo - Alexander Chernenko.
