Julia Mikhailovskaya jazz biography
Telegram jazz for many vocalists was to some extent a fairy tale that entered their life and transformed it. Most jazz performers are not alien to this feeling. An important influence on the musician is the work of other artists, historical and modern. The talented St. Petersburg singer Julia Mikhailovskaya shared her impressions of this music with Jazzpeople and invited her closest concert.
It was a ballad Mona Lisa. I remember how bewitched, I listened to this velvet timbre and an amazing melody in beauty. Then I did not know who this performer is, and the least I thought about what kind of musical style it was. But, apparently, the time of my awakening came, and probably this was the first love. A great love for jazz came later. In the future, this music had a very strong influence on me.
It’s too early to say that some formation happened. There are many factors that have influenced and continue to influence me. First of all, this, of course, is my husband, I was very lucky in this regard. This is my true friend, my like -minded person and the most important thing is my main critic. My husband introduced me to this music. He first invited me to the jazz Philharmonic, brought a large number of jazz plates.
Surprisingly, despite the fact that he is not a vocal teacher, it was he who instilled in me a culture of vocal sound, he paid attention to the smallest details performed. All small and great creative joys we live together! The most important aspect of the formation of any vocalist is the listening and viewing of old records, reading all kinds of literature dedicated to that musical era.
Yes, in general, everything that surrounds us has a certain effect. For me, this is my favorite city in which I have the happiness of living and working. See what is happening in St. Petersburg now - jazz is becoming more accessible, new sites are opening, this gives musicians more opportunities to be realized. And of course, love of music. After all, when the matter that you love is your work, it helps, gives the necessary energy and inspiration.
It is this tool that is closest to me. Unfortunately, it is undeservedly in the shade, and it is the double bass that is the main core of the lead sound of the jazz ensemble. Once I learned to play the cello, maybe their kinship and influenced my attitude towards him. In small compositions, in which I really like to perform, the double bass plays the most important role. Of course, at the top of this Olympus there is a huge “block” - the beautiful lady Ella Fitzgerald, the great voice of that departed era!
The unattainable peak. Somewhere nearby, another diva is Sarah Voan, with her bright individuality, with her freedom and musical humor!
Well, how not to mention my favorite men: Nat King Cole with his soft timbre, the unique swing of Frank Sinatra and the low baritone Johnny Hartman. They are all unique! As for domestic musicians, of course, there are people whose work is close to me. For example, I would celebrate the Moscow trumpeter Peter Vostokov and his jazz orchestra. The way he leads his concerts, how he creates new programs, his charisma, creative energy - all this delights!
In addition, he is also a magnificent trumpeter! In St. Petersburg, this example is Konstantin Khazanovich - an ideologist, a popularizer of jazz and, of course, a talented musician. But so far these are only plans, I would not want to talk about what is not. This week, March 5, my solo concert will be held in the Jazz Music Philharmonic, which I am happy to invite you to. Wonderful Petersburg musicians will play with me: tenor-saxophonist Andrei Polovko, smuguster Vadim Mikhailov, guitarist Alexander Mikhailovsky and drummer Sergey Korotkov.
