Ronan Hardiman Biography

Everyone knows that eight years ago, Michael Fletley was not a world -famous person. He was well known in Ireland and the States, but for Europe this dancer was practically not known. He owes his worldwide popularity to a deafening success at the Eurovision Song Contest, which was held in Dublin. We are also aware that before receiving the second main role in the show "Lord of the Dance" the magnificent Dair Nolan worked as a manager in a computer company.

We know all this. But not everyone knows that thirteen years ago one of the most outstanding Irish composers in the world named Ronan Hardiman simply did not exist. And there was a banking employee in the world with the same name, who regularly went to work in his office, and in his free time composed music and dreamed of getting a recognition. And then one day it happened in the year Ronan Hardiman finished his work in the bank, writing a statement about leaving the position of bank cashier, and decided to take up his dreams.

In addition to participating in many projects, Hardiman has two solo albums: SOLAS and Anthem, and in the spring or summer of the year, Ronan plans to release his new CD. Below we bring to your attention an interview with BY Annie from Dublin with a composer, published in the year on the WWW website. Despite the statute of time, the interview has not lost its relevance now.

Translation by M. GOLSTKO, Paul, are your family roots associated with this city? Yes, both of my parents were born in Dublin. The grandmother from the father was from the Atlon. Nevertheless, the surname Hardiman came from the Irish county of Gorei - there is a well -known book “Hardimans in the history of Gorea”, which was written some time ago by one of my distant relative.

Now you are a well -known composer around the world, and music is your life. Are there musical traditions in your family? Tell us, where did you get love for music? In my family, all the musicians. I will not say that professional, but, nevertheless, I grew up among music, and she constantly accompanied me. I have three sisters and one brother, and they all play musical instruments - on traditional Irish instruments.

In addition, my two sisters and brother went to the Irish-speaking school, and there was a great emphasis on traditional music. Here in such an atmosphere I grew up. Four children in your family studied at the Irish-speaking school, but you attended ST school. Killian, and this is a German school, which is located in Dublin. What was the adoption of such a decision in your parents? Well, in fact, the main reason was that the ST school.

Killian was the road from our house! When I was six years old, we moved to a new house. Previously, we lived in Klonskaga in Dublin, and then we ended up in Donnebruk - and it was a stone's throw to this school. So my parents thought, it would be great if Ronan had learned some European language, especially since there is such an opportunity. So the whole thing is just that we were next to this school.

As far as I know, this is a school with a creative bias? Yes, and initially it was a school in which only those children studied who had at least one of the parents worked at the German Embassy. But later the school began to accept Irish children. So much different training influenced the fact that you had disagreements with your brothers and sisters? How did they look at the fact that you treated music differently than they?

I believe that in every family, relations between children are changing from time to time. Of course, we had disagreements. As for music, I can say that it was always less subject to tradition than my brothers and sisters, despite the fact that we had a family group and we participated in competitions that were dedicated to traditional things: dancing and music.

I understand that you have left the love of drums since childhood? In your music, they often prevail. Yes, I really love the rhythm I wanted to abandon the piano when I was ten years old and play only on drums, I was just obsessed with them. Throughout your youth, you visited the Royal Academy of Music for twelve years in a row, but, nevertheless, your "adult" life began with work in the bank.

And yet one fine day you said to yourself: “Enough of me! How did you come to this decision? My departure from the bank was a means to achieve the goal. Since I graduated from school, I knew that music is something more for me than just a hobby. When I studied at the Irish Royal Academy, I devoted all my free time to what I had selected a pop music that I had heard on the radio.

And even then I began to compose my small songs. Over time, it turned into a mania. I terribly wanted to get into this business. I always knew since I graduated from school that composing music is really what I want more than anything else. All my family is brilliant academicians, everyone graduated from the university with honors, but such a future did not seduce.

So I refused such a career.Did your parents approve this idea? Fortunately, yes; My parents have always been very great support for me. They examined everything “pros” and “against” in difficult situations with us, with their children, and made the decision that seemed to us all acceptable. So I was lucky. Of course, they were worried about me, like all the parents who want their children the best, and understood that the show industry is a very hard work and this is a special world.

But they saw how I was a desire to become a real composer and how decisively I defend my point of view. While you decided to change your life, were you already married? Then I just met with my future wife Helen - we worked at the bank nearby for many years and for a long time were just friends before we had close relations. Working in the bank was the opportunity to make money for me.

Thanks to work, I was able to buy myself equipment for a recording studio - after all, in the future I saw myself for a synthesizer, I dreamed how to create a group. That is why I chose the work, and not an additional higher education. When you have money, it is easier to satisfy your ambitions. Nevertheless, from time to time I worked with various music groups, studied craft, tried to establish relations with recording companies, and achieved some success.

I did not lose time for nothing. Two or three times we received financial investments from different multinational record-lubls that became interested in what we do. Actually, we did not sign contracts with labels, but even the fact that we are simply interesting to someone was very important for us. I was happy that I was already involved in this business, and I was firmly convinced that I would eventually achieve success.

So I believed in my senses, I knew that I would make a musical career, it was just that the time had not yet come when I participated in the rock band, I did not have a feeling of some fleeting. I knew it was mine. I was very interested in such a thing as soundtracks, it seemed that I could also write music for any films or shows. And I decided - I was already 29 years old - if I do not try to do this now, but I will regret it for the rest of my life.

Several very talented people worked with me at the bank who devoted their free time to their hobbies. But in the end, they did not fully realize their talents. I did not want this to happen to me. How old are your children now, and do you notice their love of music? Yes, of course, I notice! I have a six -year -old daughter Ali, who is very wise towards life, as if she are already thirty years old, a kind of difficult nature, as, however, many modern children.

And a three -year -old son named Sam. It's very cool. This is staggering me every time, but I do not give a look and try to react to it as if they are so well done - this is in the order of things. Of course, at home I also perform various music. From a selfish point of view, of course, I would very much like my children to be passionate about the same as me. But common sense suggests that they themselves should choose what they like.

My daughter Ali draws very well. She spends all her free time after this occupation. By the way, my sister at the beginning of her career worked as a graph artist, probably this is inherited and yet both of my children cannot live a day without music. For example, Ali is still - at her advanced age - loves to go to bed with lullabies, like small children. Therefore, every evening we go to my studio before going to bed, where I play her favorite music for my daughter.
