The historical and biographical drama of the year is dedicated to the last days of Alexander Pushkin. Directors Vladimir Gardin and Evgeny Chervyakov offered the audience their eyes on the tragic events that entailed the death of a genius. In their opinion, it was Nicholas I who became their main catalyst.

However, critics considered such a scenario move superficial and vulgar, noting that the conflict between Pushkin and the royal environment is much deeper and more complicated. One of the directors - Evgeny Chervyakov - played Pushkin himself. The image turned out to be very textbook. Just a few hours later, the famous duel will happen between the greatest Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and French officer Georges Dantes.

Next, the reconstruction of events that led to a tragic event is demonstrated. Why did the duel really happen, who was her real culprit? Was Pushkin a chance to restore the honor of his wife and stay alive at the same time? The painting by Leonid Menaker is trying to answer these and other questions. Bulgakov used the innovative technique: showing all the tragedy of established circumstances, he does not give Pushkin a place on the stage.
